The Drop Weight Tear Tester measures how well a ferritic steel resists brittle fracture propagation — the property that decides whether a crack in a pipeline arrests or runs. A notched specimen is broken under a controlled drop and its fracture surface assessed.
The Drop Weight Tear Tester (DWTT) is built at our Pithampur works near Indore and supplied to pipe mills, plate mills and test houses across India. It is assembled, calibrated and witness tested at the works before despatch, then set up and re-calibrated on your own foundation once it has been erected.
Impact energies from 20,000 to 120,000 joules at impact velocities of 5-8 m/s, on specimens of 300×75 mm and 3-50 mm thickness, at test temperatures from -100°C to +20°C.
The drop weight tear test measures a steel’s resistance to running fracture — the property that determines whether a crack in a gas pipeline arrests or propagates. Pipeline grades are routinely qualified by DWTT under API and ASTM requirements.
Yes. Every machine we build is custom-engineered — capacity, dimensions, and configuration are matched to your line. Send your requirement via the enquiry form or call +91 91091 02280 for a firm quote. Equipment is manufactured to ASTM E436, API RP 5L3, EN 10274, and test certificates are available on request.
We do. It is calibrated and witness tested at our Pithampur works before despatch, then our engineers re-calibrate energy, drop height and instrumentation on your own foundation once it has been erected. Certificates are issued at handover, and re-calibration visits are arranged from Indore.
