A bending and folding machine clamps a metal sheet along a straight line and folds it to a set angle using a moving bending beam, handling working lengths up to 4060 mm and angles up to 135°. It's the standard tool for putting a consistent, repeatable bend into sheet rather than punching or pressing it. How it clamps and bends
The sheet is held in place by a clamping beam — manual, electric, or electromagnetic depending on the model — while a separate bending beam swings up to fold the unclamped portion to the target angle. Electromagnetic clamping is useful where the workpiece geometry makes mechanical clamping awkward, since it holds down flat sheet without physical jaws in the way.

Where bend capability matters
HVAC ductwork, construction roofing panels, automotive body panels, and appliance enclosures all depend on accurate, repeatable bends — a few degrees of variation compounds across multiple bends in the same part and shows up as poor fit-up downstream. For straightforward single-bend work at moderate volume, electric clamping with manual angle control covers most fabrication needs.
Length and thickness limits in practice
The 300–4060 mm working length range means the same product line covers everything from small bracket folding to full-length panel work, but no single machine spans the entire range — length capacity is fixed per model. Thickness is capped at 2.5 mm across the range, which sets a hard ceiling on what the machine can fold regardless of bend angle or length; heavier gauge material needs to go through a press brake or hydraulic press instead of a folding machine.
Choosing between clamping types
Mechanical clamping suits straightforward flat-sheet jobs where jaw access from the sides isn't a problem. Electromagnetic clamping is worth the added cost for parts with pre-formed features or irregular edges near the bend line, where physical clamp jaws would interfere with the part or leave clamp marks on a finished surface. For shops running a mix of both part types, checking the electromagnetic clamping option against your typical job mix — not just your highest-volume job — avoids finding out later that a subset of parts can't be clamped properly on a mechanical-only machine.
