Tube mills take coil in at one end and produce finished pipe at the other, which means the handling equipment on site has to cover both coil-form and round-stock handling in a single plant.
Two handling problems in one plant
A tube mill's front end handles coil the same way any coil processing line does — feeding, forming, and welding it into tube. But the plant's output is round stock, which doesn't lift, rotate, or transport the same way a coil does. Pipe rotators and pipe lifting tackle exist specifically to cover that second half of the handling chain.
Pipe rotators for welding and inspection
Pipe rotators provide motorized rotation for pipes during welding, inspection, and other processing, up to 3000 mm diameter and 100 ton capacity in Pragya's range. Motorized, self-aligning rollers turn the pipe at speeds from 0.2–30 RPM, with optional ±45° tilting for presenting the work at the optimal angle. This is standard equipment in pipe welding and fabrication, and the applications extend beyond tube mills themselves into oil and gas pipeline construction, pressure vessel fabrication, and shipbuilding — anywhere round stock needs controlled rotation for a welder or inspector to work around its full circumference without repositioning the piece manually. See pipe rotator applications in pipe manufacturing and welding for the variants.

Pipe lifting tackle for safe transport
Once pipe is welded and finished, it still has to move — into storage, onto a truck, or to the next process step — without denting the pipe body or damaging any coating. Pragya's pipe lifting tackle covers this with wire rope, fabric, and roller cradle sling configurations, working load limits from 100 kg to 30 ton, and pipe diameters from 51–610 mm (2"–24"). Fabric slings specifically protect coated or finished pipe surfaces during the lift, while roller cradle slings distribute load across multiple rollers for more even support along the pipe length. Safety factors run 5:1 to 10:1 depending on configuration, built to ASME B30.9 — our guide to safe handling of pipes in storage and loading covers choosing between sling types.
Sequencing the handling chain
In a working tube mill, pipe rotators typically sit at the welding and inspection stations mid-process, while pipe lifting tackle takes over once a length is finished and needs to move to storage or dispatch. Because the two jobs are different — one holds the pipe in place while rotating it, the other lifts and carries it — a mill's equipment list usually needs both rather than expecting one device to do double duty. Sizing each to the mill's actual maximum pipe diameter and weight, rather than its typical run, is the same principle that applies across every other coil and pipe handling decision in the plant. On the coil-form front end, an uncoiler/recoiler feeds the forming and welding line.
