Pragya Precision Equipment Private Limited traces back to 1992, when Mr. L.C. Tolani (BE Mech., FIE) founded Pragya Hydro Equipment as a small-scale industrial unit in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh. He brought 14 years of prior experience from HEG Ltd., Hindustan Motors Ltd., and C.C. Power Hydraulics Pvt. Ltd. into the new venture — a background in hydraulic and industrial equipment design that shaped the company from its first machines.
Building a reputation through the 1990s
Through that first decade, the company established itself designing, developing, and manufacturing equipment for cold-rolled and hot-rolled steel mills, sheet galvanising plants, solvent extraction plants, tube mills, and saw pipe plants. Mr. Tolani's hands-on approach — engaged from conceptual design through to manufacturing — became the operating pattern the company still follows today: understand the customer's process, then engineer specifically for it rather than adapting a standard product.

National recognition in 2000
That approach earned formal recognition on August 30, 2000, when Mr. Tolani received the National Award for Outstanding SSI Entrepreneur, presented by the Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. It wasn't the company's only recognition — three years earlier, on September 23, 1997, Mr. Tolani received the Bharat Vikas Award for developing a hydraulic auto-run system, presented by Dr. S. Venugopalachari, Minister of State for Agriculture. In 2012, the company received the State Government of Madhya Pradesh's Award for Excellence as Best SSI Unit, presented by Shri Kailash Vijaywargiya on February 14, 2012.
A new name, the same standards
In 2020, the company was renamed Pragya Precision Equipment Private Limited — the same team, engineering standards, and customer-first approach that had defined it since 1992, now under a name that reflected the precision-engineered nature of its products. The rebrand didn't change what the company built or how it built it; it formalised an identity that had already been earned over nearly three decades.
Where the company stands today
Pragya Precision Equipment is headquartered in Indore, with manufacturing operations at Pithampur Industrial Area, Madhya Pradesh. Today the company serves 600+ clients across 22+ countries on 5 continents, manufacturing steel handling and testing equipment, solvent extraction machinery, and custom special-purpose equipment for industries the standard product catalogue doesn't cover — more about the company.
Why the history still matters
A company's founding story is more than background — it explains why certain things haven't changed. The same customer-oriented, individually-planned approach that Mr. Tolani applied to a 1990s steel mill project still shapes how every custom machine gets designed today: understand the operational problem first, then engineer the equipment to solve it. Three decades in, that's still the starting point for every project that comes through the door.
